Fashion and Style

Recently I wanted to create a new look for myself so I put on my thinking cap to see what I could come up with. I have always been a big fan of the deceptively simple and sophisticated look, that is timeless in its fashion sense. So, I searched through my closet and my drawers to find the perfect items to put together.

I chose a sleeveless patterned dress with a V-neckline that was ruched at the bodice. The colors were teal, light blue and mocha with a hint of black on a beige background, and the dress had a slightly flared skirt. I chose a wide-brim black straw hat, and attached a big black silk flower to the brim. I accessorized by selecting a three strand necklace made of teal and mocha colored stones that has a matching stretchy bracelet and cocktail ring. My earrings were teal teardrops that were edged in tiny rhinestones. My footwear was a pair of teal pumps and I carried a black patent clutch bag.

But the real focal point of my outfit was my gloves. I had a brainstorm that excited me when I remembered I had a pair of my Mothers silk gloves in the exact same shade of light blue in the dress pattern. I dug them out of my heirloom chest, rinsed them out in mild soapy water and laid them flat to dry. For the first time in many years I wore gloves to church that weren't worn for the express purpose of keeping my hands warm!

As I gave myself a final look before leaving that morning, I couldn't help but be very pleased with the result of my new look. The hat lent an air of sassy and the dress and jewelry were perfect mid-summer attire, while the silk gloves topped it off with pure sophisticated elegance.

Needless to say, I received several compliments that morning and it was nice to know that I had made some great choices, and the confidence I had as a result of making a fashion statement was fabulous! So, I encourage you to create a new look for yourself, and don't be afraid to try something different. Mix up a little vintage with some modern and test your results. Make your fashion statement by personalizing the look, and daring to be different!
